Fritz Quartet at The Church of the Holy Family

10 June 2006

Today, the Fritz Quartet played for a wedding at The Church of the Holy Family. It was an early ceremony and we reached the church at Chapel Road at 8.30am, where we did a quick warm up outside the chapel. It was a bright and cheerful morning.

We played various tunes such as Ave Maria and Jesu, Lord of Desiring as the guests were seated. At 9am, the Fritz Quartet accompanied the walk in of 6 couples with "Trumpet Voluntary", it was very surreal. And finally, it was the bride's turn. We had been specially requested to play Canon in D, and this we did with much joy, as each step of the bride's was accompanied by the Fritz Quartet's Canon in D and the sound of the church bells tolling. We had not been mic-ed up and we almost played our arms off struggling to make ourselves heard as the chapel was very big and echo-ey.

After the joyous ceremony, we trooped off to the nearby Macs for breakfast. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning, celebrating a union, and spending some quality Fritz time. :)

The Fritz Quartet at Oriental Hotel

26 April 2006

Today, the Fritz Quartet was engaged to play for Singapore's very own Nanyang Technological University (NTU). We had 2 sets to play for, the cocktail reception and another dinner set.

This special function was held at the Oriental Hotel. We arrived slightly earlier to have a sound check. As the room was rather small, we decided to go without mics because we did not want to be intrusive to conversations held during dinner.

At 6.45pm sharp, we started the night off with familiar tunes such as Canon in D, Winter evening from Vivaldi's very famous "The Four Seasons" and we livened up the cocktail reception with The Overture from Rossini's "The Barber of Seville". This gathered applause from an appreciative audience who were looking at the posters on exhibition and one impressed guest even tapped me on the shoulder and went 'bravo'! I had just enough time to smile and say 'thank you' before I started on the crazy running notes of the piece! :)

We proceeded to the ballroom where we were engaged to play for another set. The smell of dinner was pleasing to our noses, I was starting to feel hungry! But this was not enough to deter us and we played our hearts out. We definitely loved our audience for the night, who put down their forks and spoons to applaud us after each piece.

It was certainly one memorable night for the Fritz Quartet!
